Greenfield Captive Bank

The Enterprise

One of the top ten car manufacturers searched by ways of a comprehensive call for tender for a suitable software to be used as a core banking system in connection with the foundation of an autobank. The enterprise was watched closely by BaFin, the 'Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht‘, which is the State Supervisory Body for Banking Matters in Germany. From the start IT Software solutions were on focus that were seen to be appropriate and documented. This captive bank had as a distinctive feature most of their processes and IT infrastructure outsourced. Classical products such as credit, leasing and dealership wholesale financing next to a full banking service i. e. ‘the deposit business’ were on offer.

The Assignment

The assignment was to incorporate an end-2-end solution using as many elements as possible ‘out of the box’ as market entry should happen within a short amount of time. This meant that all areas were required starting from a dealer’s preparation of  a B2B offer to a fully completed IFRS balance sheet. More than 100 interfaces allowed that special processes could be outsourced and consequently contracted with BPO providers. Just as important were that different makes (multi-tenancy) could be managed in one system and the integration of retail and wholesale in order to enable dealers to use a combination of both transaction types – furthermore the inclusion of the possibility to do ‘netting’.

The Solution

Within the required time the solution for an end-2-end system was delivered with the following specifications: the integration of a RiskEngine with fraud prevention and the establishment of several components i. e. deposit business,  Reporting, Bank Steering, Planning and Controlling and Federal Bank (Bundesbank) payment transactions. The core banking software was set up in such a way that BPO providers could work with it, but it allowed to make exchanges of the same on demand. The various interfaces were used to create automatisms that could guarantee high volume processing. In the course of time, the existing modules were expanded in line with current regulatory requirements (transparency register, Anacredit and IFRS).

German Universal Bank

The Enterprise

The company was divided up into a leasing company and a bank. All types of contracts i.e. leasing, hire purchase and credit, and all object types such as moveable-assets, vehicles, ships, aircraft, construction machinery, agricultural machinery, small-asset were offered through respective products on the market.
The processes were optimised in such a way that both the small and big-ticket business were represented. In Germany, the company is among the top ten universal leasing companies. The company was also well known in other European countries.

 

The Assignment

The large EDP-system was to be converted to the new PC-based CIC solution. Specialities such as the "78 rule" had to be recreated for continuity reasons. From the start the customer wished to determine rental rates based on the components of the configuration in order to be able to react quickly and independently to sales models and market adaptations. Some of their own workflows and masks were utilised for the above, although the CIC components were always used as a standard. From the beginning, the difficulty for us as the manufacturer was to consider the compatibility of our own further development, so that a constant update was viable.

 

The Solution

In the mid-90s the first migration of the DOS solution took place. The company participated in all updates and upgrades so that the current software was always installed. This gives them today the latest software with the most efficient tools.
The approach in order to achieve compatability consisted of a modular ERP-solution for a full bank as well as a leasing company with interactions between the two enterprises. On top of this, peripheral-systems were linked to the core banking system that had evolved from particularities of their market presence. The further independent development on a configuration level was taken into account for follow up migrations.

Swiss Industry Standard

The Enterprise

The company was founded fully covering the area of consumer financing with credit and leasing in Switzerland at the beginning of the 2000s. A new bank was set up on a greenfield site and contracts were transferred from existing portfolios. In the Swiss market, the company had specialised in offering its products through other brands and had created a highly effective back office for processing. Today all „Cantons„ are served multilingually and nearly 500,000 contracts have been processed in the complete 'end-2-end' lifecycle.

 

The Assignment

On a greenfield site, an ideal platform had to be created within a short time, in order to establish the new bank with migrations from external systems. A new and highly efficient solution was established to handle the planned volumes. In addition, the inventories had to be reconsolidated so that a uniform process structure would function. The highly professional team of specialists had planned the extensive and regular releases over the following years in order to bring the software to the required industry standard in Switzerland. Many "brands" in Switzerland are currently handled via this platform.

The Solution

The CIC acted as the general contractor from the very beginning. Over time, the initial third-party modules that had been purchased were replaced in the quotation and application route. Today the complete 'end-2-end' process is equipped with CICone. The CIC solution was standard, however tailor-made to this particular customer, whereby, special configuration modules were built for the customer, which put them into a position to parameterise their own new sales channels as well as configure their current new products - without writing one line of softwarecode!

 

The first Captive-bank

The Enterprise

The enterprise was one of the big car manufacturers doing business in Austria and in Central Europe. Standard products such as leasing, credit and dealership wholesale financing were offered through CIC software. The range was extended with a full service leasing offer which meant that dealers could calculate and offer pre-configured vehicles via the B-2-B solution. Self-services could have been implemented in order to reduce the workload for the back-office. The regulations specific to the individual countries and to tax laws had been included. The IT infrastructure was based in a single location. It could be utilised via remote access from the entities of other countries.

The Assignment

The challenge was to migrate from the five existing pre-systems with regards to their specialties and technical aspects in order to arrive at a software that is modern and consistent. The particularities had been individual country solutions that needed to be adapted at the same time as to the requirements of a global corporation. The full end-2-end route with an implemented accounting module, that was newly added, was introduced in 2 steps at the customer. The requirements foresaw an Oracle Database which found its place within the course of the introduction. Short notice changes of tax law e. g. NoVa represented a challenge as they had to be integrated upon decision into production operations within a few months’ time.

 

The Solution

First of all the target environment was set up which had to unify all base functions of the five pre-systems. Then this system was extended with current requirements derived from investment backlogs in the pre-systems. After that  the migration ‘from 5 to 1 system’ took place in order to start productive operations. In the five following years the system was methodically extended and the expansion into Central Europe was supported. The focus was always on the development of every further country entity in order to guarantee their profitability.

The Oldest Customer

The Enterprise

One of the main reasons for the birth of CIC was due to this customer. A locally and nationwide well-known automobile leasing-company situated in Munich,which is independent from all banks and manufacturers. Today, the company is one of the largest independent and privately-owned leasing companies and a top address for premium and classic cars as well as boats. Even after 30 years, the company’s software version is still based on 'CICone' having made all the required updates. It was significant for this particular company that the administration, which consisted of contract management and accounting through utilisation of the software and strict organisation evolved an excellent turnover/ person benchmark coefficient of processes compared to other leasing companies.

 

The Assignment

The task at hand was to set up a PC-based contract management system, as at the time, working manually through the files was no longer possible. After extensive market analysis, the company decided to use CIC in order to create its leasing management software. This made CIC one of the first companies to use a modern PC-based software. Over the course of the years, outstanding parts of the system i. e. sales and accounting were replaced in order to finally have a complete ERP-solution. During the turn of the millenium to the year 2000 many new challenges arose, which became new tasks for us. These consisted of the ‚Y2K bug‘, conversion from the ‚Deutsch Mark‘ to the EURO and various VAT conversions. Since the subordination of the ‚Bunderanstalt für Finanzdienstleitungsaufsicht‘ (BaFin), certain requirements came along which had to be integrated to maintain an up-to-date operational software.

 

The Solution

Starting at the point of the DOS-PC, initially 286 processors and networking under Novelle, CICone is now operated in its own data processing centre, with the possibility of being accessed in house, as well as remotely.Over the course of time, all processes of the financial services provider were implemented on the basis of the CIC framework, which in turn has given gave them a unique selling point.The overall solution covers all processes from the preparation of an offer to a finished balance sheet. Thanks to a small IT-team, the company was able to work independently within its framework, and therefore integrate its own processes and processing steps giving the software its unique and individual structure. Today, these are the reasons why they are efficient especially within controlling for refinancing banks as it provides all the essential information at the push of a button.
